One of our English and Mandarin weddings had between 300 and 400 guests. It was a shy room. The parents, aunties, uncles and family friends were a reserved, quiet crowd. The English-speaking guests were quiet too — friends and colleagues who mostly had never met each other. Then the speeches ran long, the run sheet slipped, and the room started to get restless.
So the MC walked the floor. Table by table, they spoke with guests in their own language and did short interviews on the microphone. Truly fluent, in both languages
Not a few rehearsed phrases. Small mistakes in a language the MC half-knows are the first thing native speakers notice. We speak with every MC in each language they claim before they join us.
Knows the formalities
Tea ceremony order, how parents and elders are addressed, table-by-table toasts, door games, lucky timing. We ask which ceremonies you are having before we choose your MC, so they already know them.
Brings the whole room in
Not only the two families. Friends, colleagues, the bridal party, children, older guests, and the plus-one who knows nobody. Your MC should read each table and give everyone a reason to join in.

The first two matter most. A room that is 80% Mandarin needs a different host to one that is split evenly, and a room of close family needs a different touch to one full of friends and colleagues meeting for the first time. Both change how your MC uses each language all night.
Your MC does the work long before the reception.
Once you have chosen, your MC meets you by phone or video to go through the run sheet and answer your questions. They get to know you both — how you met, what your families are like, what you want the night to feel like.

How much does a wedding MC cost in Sydney?
A reception-only wedding host in Sydney typically sits around $800–$1,200. A full wedding with an established MC usually lands between $1,400 and $2,200, with senior hosts above that. A second language adds roughly 10–15%. The quote on your shortlist is the all-up fee, plus GST.
Can we see the MC's profile and experience before we book?
Yes. Your shortlist shows each MC's experience, languages, photos and showreel video, with a firm quote beside it. Every MC on it has already confirmed they are free on your date. You choose who you would like to speak with.
How far ahead should we book a wedding MC?
Most couples book about a year ahead to secure both the date and the MC — popular Saturdays go first. We can also work quickly: the shortest turnaround we have filled was two weeks before the wedding.
Will the MC translate everything into both languages?
Usually not word for word. Your MC mixes the two languages, moving between them wherever it suits the moment, so nobody sits through everything twice. If you would like every sentence translated, just ask. Speeches can be translated live if you share the scripts with your MC at the planning meeting.
Our wedding is in one language only. Can you still help?
Yes. We match MCs for English-only weddings, and for weddings hosted entirely in another language — Mandarin, Hindi, Cantonese, Arabic and more. You get the same hand-matching and the same standard of host. Bilingual is simply where many of our couples need us most.
Some of our guests speak only one of the languages. Will they feel left out?
No — that is exactly what a bilingual MC is for. Every key moment is delivered so both sides follow it: welcomes, introductions, speeches, toasts and games. Your MC also reads the room, and will speak with guests table by table in their own language, so friends, colleagues and relatives all feel the night includes them.
Does a bilingual wedding run longer?
A little. Two languages adds some time compared with one, so your MC allows for it when building the run sheet with you. Because not every sentence is repeated, the difference is small.
Will the MC work with our venue, planner and DJ?
Yes. Your MC coordinates with your venue, planner, DJ or band, photographer and catering team on the day, and builds the run sheet with you beforehand, so everyone working your wedding knows what happens next.
Do you host same-sex weddings?
Yes, always. Every couple is welcome at The Stage MC, and we only match you with an MC who will host your day with warmth and respect.
What if we don't love anyone on our shortlist?
Then we keep shortlisting until you do. That is our job. We will not let a mediocre MC host your big day.
What happens if our MC gets sick close to the wedding?
We find and vet a replacement of the same standard, and they only step in with your permission. You are never left without a host, and the quality does not drop.
Do you cover weddings outside Sydney?
Yes. Our MCs regularly host in Wollongong, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains and the Hunter Valley, and we are open to interstate and overseas weddings too. Within Sydney, travel is already part of your MC's quote. Anywhere further, we discuss travel with you first, so you know the full cost before you decide. All fees are plus GST.
